to be fair though, people who claim veganism is expensive don’t actually know what they’re talking about. done right it’s by far the cheapest way to eat.

congratulations on missing the fucking point.

and no, you’re 100% wrong about that, cuz having the ability to turn down ANY food that’s available to you is a fucking enormous class privilege. and an obvious one at that.

i mean really. think.

the fact that [the western concept of] veganism is a privileged lifestyle isn’t only based on the dollars you’re spending on groceries.

let’s talk about how you can’t use WIC to buy soy milk.

or how many people have to buy their meals/groceries at gas stations or convenience stores (yeah, try eating a vegan diet based on the food you can get there. no really. try it!)

or discounted food shops that have spoiled produce and really limited selections. food accessibility IS A PROBLEM.

let’s talk about how cooking a decent meal from scratch isn’t something everyone knows how to do, or is CAPABLE of doing (hi! check yr able-bodied privilege, asswipe!) or has the TIME to do

let’s talk about how not everyone has access to kitchen equipment, a stove, a refrigerator, or a fucking kitchen at all. let’s talk about how expensive & inaccessible it is to stock up on spices & other ingredients that you need to make from-scratch meals taste good.

let’s talk about people who are limited to what they can get at the soup kitchen. or the dollar menu.

let’s talk about how food is cultural and replacing traditional foods can be next to impossible  (unless maybe yr rich). also? that’s pretty fuckin imperialist. & why should somebody do all of this again? FOR THE ANIMALS? even though HUMAN BEINGS are dying because of this horrifically fucked up food industry? excuse me, why did they become less important? —oh right, cuz [western] veganism is a white movement that couldn’t give less of a shit about people of color who are literally dying to pick their fuckin produce.

and seriously. do you fucking pay attention to the cost of produce? a person can’t live off goddamn lentils. not just because they’ll wind up malnourished, but jesus fucking christ, talk about boring.

and guess what? it’s VALID that people have emotional ties to food and want/need to eat ~junk~ once in a while. it’s VALID that people might want—OR NEED—to eat stuff that doesn’t take hours to prepare… and where the fuck can you get VEGAN ice cream for $1.86???? VEGAN pre-made meals for $1-2??

NOWHERE.

and that’s not even getting into allergies or texture problems that can cause severe food restrictions. a lot of those can make a vegan diet nearly impossible unless you are dropping serious cash.

as someone who was vegan for over a decade, shut the fuck up.

i DO know what i’m talking about.

Ex-vegans are always so angry about veganism. Sucks that you couldn’t make it work, but I bet these excuses probably don’t even apply to you.

Unless you’re getting all of your food from a shelter/kitchen because you’re so broke that you can’t buy your own food, you need to be buying vegan food. The only other possible exception would be someone who is incapable of feeding him/herself or asking for vegan food (someone who has limited consciousness, a feeding tube, etc). Bread, pasta, beans, and some combo of fruits and vegetables are cheap as fuck. It doesn’t get cheaper than that.

And people who live in a food dessert (which is not as common as vegan apologists and omnivores with excuses would have you believe) need to scrape together everything they can to get the fuck out of there, because some places should just not be inhabited, least of all by people who simply lack the resources to make it work.

You don’t need kitchen equipment to be vegan. MANY vegan things are non perishables and/or don’t need cooking. Apples, bananas, bread, kiws, tomatoes, etc. are all things that can be kept at room temperature, and eaten as is. And they’re all cheap, when you watch out for sales.

People suffer horrible injuries and die all the time at factory farms. The equipment is dangerous, and many also sustain psychological damage from the brutality they’re paid to inflict. Let’s talk about THAT.

Or about how cravings for junk food are NOT a valid reason to be responsible for torturing and killing sentient beings.
